The Itinerary

Between Mont-Joli on the St. Lawrence and Matapédia at the New Brunswick border, Route 132 then Route 132 south cross the Matapédia Valley — a long verdant corridor along the eponymous river, one of the world's most productive Atlantic salmon waters.

Amqui, the regional centre, marks the valley's midpoint. The Pourvoirie Matamajaw at Causapscal, a former private club founded in 1873 by Lord Mount Stephen (CP Rail president), is now a living museum of salmon fishing: watch salmon climb the rapids in front of the historic lodge.

Parc régional de Val-d'Irène offers alpine skiing in winter and mountain biking in summer. At Sayabec, the Moulin Bertrand recounts forestry history. Matapédia, at the border, is the quick gateway to the Restigouche and New Brunswick.
