The Itinerary
30 minutes from Trois-Rivières, La Mauricie National Park (Parks Canada) is one of Quebec's most beautiful national parks: 536 km² of wooded hills, deep lakes and canoeing rivers. The road trip starts in Shawinigan, energy capital, and winds toward the Saint-Jean-des-Piles entrance.
The lakes parkway crosses the park east-to-west over 63 km: Lake Édouard, Lake Wapizagonke with its Waber Falls reached by trail or canoe, Lake Modène, and the Le Passage lookout for panoramic views. Wapizagonke is among Quebec's best canoeing lakes, dotted with islands and quiet bays.
Saint-Mathieu-du-Parc, at the southern entrance, hosts the Le Trou du Diable craft brewery and several outfitters. Don't miss: Cité de l'Énergie in Shawinigan, hydroelectric theme park with a 115 m observation tower.
