The Itinerary

From the coastal village of Sainte-Anne-des-Monts, Route 299 dives inland and climbs into the heart of the Gaspé. In 40 km you go from the river to the highest peaks south of the St. Lawrence: the Chic-Chocs range.

Parc national de la Gaspésie (Sépaq) protects this unique massif: Mont-Albert (1,154 m) with its famous summit plateau and woodland caribou herd, Mont-Jacques-Cartier (1,268 m) — Quebec's highest peak south of the St. Lawrence, accessed by summer shuttle — and the legendary Sainte-Anne River for Atlantic salmon fishing.

The Gîte du Mont-Albert, the Sépaq's legendary inn, serves an acclaimed fine-dining menu. Beyond the park, scenic Route 299 continues over the mountains toward New Richmond and the Baie-des-Chaleurs — a full Gaspé crossing possible.
