Anticosti Island, Quebec's largest (7,943 km²) and UNESCO World Heritage-listed since 2023 for its fossils and marine geology, is a world apart. The Compagnie de Gestion de Matane ferry leaves Havre-Saint-Pierre for a 6 h crossing to Port-Menier, the sole inhabited village (200 residents).
The island counts 160,000 white-tailed deer for 200 people — the highest density in the world. Sépaq operates the Anticosti National Park: trail to the spectacular Vauréal Falls (76 m) at the bottom of a green canyon, Cap-Blanc viewpoint, fossils, deserted beaches, and the Patate Cave. Plan at least 3-4 days and rent a vehicle on-island (gravel roads).
