The Itinerary
Route 132 south between Lévis and Saint-Jean-Port-Joli follows the St. Lawrence's south shore through one of Quebec's most creative regions: the Côte-du-Sud. The Chemin du Roy (1737), North America's first carriageable road, traces this same line through villages ranked among the most beautiful.
Beaumont, Saint-Michel-de-Bellechasse, Saint-Vallier and Berthier-sur-Mer line up century-old houses, remarkable churches and charming inns. From Montmagny, Île aux Grues (summer ferry) is worth the detour: Manoir Mauvide-Genest, Riopelle cheese, award-winning goat cheeses.
Saint-Jean-Port-Joli, the world's wood-sculpture capital since the Bourgault brothers in the 1930s, hosts more than 25 ateliers and the Musée de la mémoire vivante. The International Sculpture Symposium each summer is one of Canada's largest.
